Yayoi Kusama was born into a conservative family in Japan, but during the 1960s she moved to America where she first had her brush with fame. She garnered enough attention from the press that she rivaled Andy Warhol, and she eventually went on to international fame in the art world. Now in her 80’s, Kusama has spent the last 30 years living in a mental institution in Japan.
