Passion of Augustine Creates a Powerful Impression

The Passion of Augustine (La Passion D’Augustine) was greeted by warm and resounding praise at last week’s Orange County Film Society screening.

Set in Quebec during the midst of the Quiet Revolution of the 1960s, Mother Augustine (Céline Bonnier) seeks to provide young girls at her convent the opportunity to study and master classical music, but with pressures rising from the Vatican II, the traditions of the church, as well as Mother Augustine’s convent, are in jeopardy. The touching but powerful Canadian French language film was screened at the Newport Beach Film Festival this past April, where it won five 5 jury awards, including Best Feature Film, Best Director (Léa Pool), Best Actress (Bonnier), Best Supporting Actress (Lysander Menard) and Best Screenplay( Poole and Marie Vien).
